The Monkees were a manufactured product designed by Don Kirshner and TV Producers to represent a watered down, more accessible version of a Hard Days Night. The oh-so-lovable fake fab four mop-heads lip-synched their way through several seasons of a sitcom and most of the albums until later, when they actually did play on some songs and Michael Nesmith penned a few songs too. Having said that, The Monkees are a guilty pleasure of mine. I liken them to the birds at times only with more whimsical themes. "Pleasant Valley Sunday" remains one of my favorite songs ever. "Salesman" is really great and "Daydream Believer", sure cheese-ball but so catchy and great when served with cheese balls. Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones Ltd., in my mind, is the best of the bunch and the most reminiscent of The Byrds vocals and The Turtles everything else. Forget The Best Of, Forget the 2 CD box set, you don't need any of that crap, just buy a used copy of this LP and you're set. You'll own all the Monkees you'll ever need. And compared with the manufactured Pap of today, it's brilliant.
