I was a latecomer to Death Cab for Cutie (not sure why, they're everything I love, thoughtful, super-indie, smart-ass, and hailing from a rainy Pacific Northwest city) though I've dabbled in them a bit, I am certainly no expert. I bought this EP on a whim and I tore it open and read the lyrics of the first song before I even played it. The first cut, "Little Bribes" starts out like this: "The Eiffel Tower built to smaller scale in the freshest oxygen I'd ever inhaled. I tapped a bottle against a safety rail, killing time"
And then I put it on my turntable and I really really loved it. This is now my favorite Death cab song. The other cool thing on this EP is an unreleased Demo on the B side of "Talking Bird" Just Gibbard singing and a ukulele, I think, but please don't yell at me if it's a mandolin. Anyway, it's gorgeous. "...on infinite repeat like your brain can't keep up with your beak"
I'm not a big EP acquirer, generally a re-mix, dance mix or re-interpretation of a song I already like is pointless to me. But a band like Death Cab, you have to know, is going to put something pretty great on an EP if they bother at all, right? So, if you don't have it, you should get it.
