First of all, I must apologize for my absence. I was preoccupied with a lot of non-musical things and I've been one poor correspondent. I missed talking about all the cool LP's I scored at Record Store day including a blue vinyl- Band of Horses, a special (from the vaults) double Radiohead 10" and 45's from Charlotte Gainsbourg, Flogging Molly, and Elvis Presley! But I digress, I'm here to talk about Dark Side Of The Moon. I was uncertain about how this record was received in the world and I just checked. It sold 45 million copies worlwide, yikes, I suspect some stoners might have forgot they owned it and bought it twice so factor that in. There's been so much talk about "The Wall" lately because Roger Waters is touring it and that's really cool but my favorite Pink Floyd always has and always will DSOTM. Because this album was made after Syd Barret's departure from the band suffering from poor mental health, the members decided to do a record of songs about things that make you mad (as in "Crazy) i.e. Money, Time, Us and Them (but I do think that "Us and Them" has a beautiful dreamy quality that is just so appealing and doesn't make me crazy at all). Great Gig in The Sky is also very appealing to me, the wailing vocal sampling has such a wonderful sexy quality to it. I often go back and listen to it again and again. The cool thing about all Pink Floyd music is that it's rather open to interpretation, like good art. It can make you insane or it can make you fall in love. Cool facts about this record: Recorded at Abbey Road Studios and engineered by Alan Parsons of yes, The Alan Parsons Project.
